Many people say that Njörd was the love of Skaði, but it is not true...Thjazi,the giant and father of Skaði,was killed by the Æsir for kidnapping Idunn, who was looking after the golden apples. When Skaði arrived in Asgard to take revenge, the Æsir offered her a deal: Odin took Thjazi's eyes and placed them in the sky like two stars (a myth that I find brutally beautiful) and Skaði could choose a husband among the gods, but could only look at his feet.Skaði chose the one with the most beautiful feet thinking that he was Baldr, but it was Njördr, the god of the sea.The couple didn't decide where to live so they spent 9 nights in Thrymheimr, Skaði's home, and 9 nights in Nóatún, Njördr's home. After those nights Njördr told Skaði that he would never live in the mountains as he hated the cold and could not stand the howling of wolves and the sounds of the forest at night. Then Skaði said that she couldn't live in Nóatún, near the sea,as she couldn't tolerate the sun and the squawks of the seagulls didn't let her sleep. So the couple separated and each returned home.In some texts it is said that Skaði later married Ullr,in others she had several children with Odin, one of them called Saeming, who was the first true king of Norway.Anyway, Skaði chose the snow, the cold, the mountain that embraced her every night, she chose her true love: her true home.If Skaði had stayed to live in Nóatún she would have died in life, that's why she chose what she really loved, the wild and free life in the mountains, the cold wind in his face, the howl of a wolf in the night...
