SKAÐI, GODDESS OF WINTER

These days the snow that fell and the silence that accompanies it whisper her name: Skaði.In Old Norse Skaði means " damage", and it comes from the Germanic root 'skadus' which means "shadow". The name Skaði is related to Scandinavia "the island of Skaði". The goddess of winter and hunting, I feel her closer than ever! She lives in Thrymheimr, the home of her father, the giant Thjazi, who was killed by the Æsir.Thrymheimr hides in the perpetual snows of the highest peaks, and there Skaði is immensely happy. She loves the cold wind, the silence, the solitude, the unique and magical freedom of that place, the wild beauty that permeates everything...The goddess carries a bow that she uses in a very skilful way,she travels through the mountains accompanied by wolves (sometimes white bears). She is a Vanir accepted as Æsir by marriage with Njördr,Skaði is powerful, strong, determined and always looking for justice. She was the one who put the snake on Loki's head, so that the poison of the animal would fall on the face of the traitor. She is related to the rune Isa of Futhark who represents cold, knowledge and inner defiance.Skaði is the calm and stillness, but inside her there is a fire that burns and makes her different, she is the calm before the storm, the reflection before making decisions.I can see her walking through the cold mountains, with her bow on her back, protecting her home, standing on a rock admiring the last rays of sun as the evening falls, running with wolves, living her own essence, enjoying the cold and dark nights in Thrymheimr, smiling as the snow falls on her face. Her wild and free personality, the place where she lives, her relationship with nature, her sensitive and smiling side facing her strong side with a sense of justice... all this makes her a unique and special goddess.
