RUNES AND STAFFS II

Everything begins to take shape, the wyrd has decided for us.

After cutting the pieces of wood or bone, the runes or staves have to be carved with a knife, and once the shape of the staff has been carved, it's time to fill the groove with blood. Once the shape of the staff is carved, the groove must be filled with blood and it's time for the galdr. This moment is when the energy is infused into the staff, when it is activated, when it is awakened. It's the moment to transmit the intention of the staff, and for that you need all the energy within yourself. There are different opinions as to which finger we should draw the blood from to activate the staffs. Some of them only need saliva. The tradition has changed over the years, and there are also contradictions regarding the moon phase for this ritual.

There is another method of activation, which is through fire. Some spells or staffs are drawn on a piece of paper, dipped in saliva or blood and then burnt. The moment the fire burns the staff is when it is activated from a simple intention to action.

Smoke is another means of activation. The smoke should come from a fire made by ourselves with plants, preferably fresh.

Meditation and intention are essential, that is where half of the power and magic lies.

The other half lies within the staff, in its essence, in its energy.

We can't really be sure how the ancient Scandinavians did it. But there is one thing we can be sure of: this magic is so ancient and so powerful that it is lost in the mists of time. It's a legacy, a living story never told, the dream that men inherited from the old gods.
