KALEVALA, FINNISH FOLKLORE

Echoes of the past, stories told thousands of years ago.Magic and its power, heroes and their deeds, strange beings that live between two worlds, the roots of a people...By a fire,in a silent night, a calm and deep voice keeps those legends alive, legends that fill a void on which the present was built. Kalevala means "The lands of Kaleva", although some say that Kalevala is "land of heroes".Kalevala is one of Finland's greatest treasures,a collection of poems, songs, tales and legends that create the Finnish saga. The magical songs of Finnish folklore are called runes. The physician and folklorist Elias Lönnrot collected all the stories from the oral tradition during his trips in Finland, Lapland and Karelia.Kalevala tells the birth and creation of the world and a lot of adventures of heroes and amazing characters. The main character is Väinämöinen, a shaman and bard who possesses a kantele with which he chants runes and makes his magic stronger.Väinämöinen lives many adventures on his travels, in which his final destination is to find a wife, something he fails to do despite doing amazing things with magic.Perhaps Väinämöinen didn't realise that the magic had already happened, but that's part of the story, isn't it? Take a seat by the fire and let my voice tell you a thousand stories full of magic and heroes that still live inside me...Art by @teroporthan on Deviantart
