Thoughts of life and death come to your mind.Rebirth, endless cycle in which you are immersed.Your hands are stained scarlet, you feel such a deep connection with your surroundings that you enjoy every second. Some say that red is not a common color in nature, but the alder and aspen prove otherwise. The drawing and illustration of the Scandinavian shamanic drum is something very important, and red is the color chosen to do it.Traditionally the dye for drawing the drum is obtained from the bark of alder or aspen. The bark extracted from the tree is chewed or slowly boiled until the reddish colored dye reminiscent of blood is extracted. The most common methods for drawing the drum are two.The first is by directly painting the drum skin, and the second is by cutting the drum skin in the shape of the drawings and then pouring the dye over the cuts to make the illustrations more visible. The worlds represented on the traditional drum are 3: Ylinen (upper world of gods and spirits of light), Keskinen (middle world representing the spiritual side of the earthly world) and Alinen (the kingdom of power animals, ancestral spirits). The drawing on the outside of the drum is for the audience and the rest of the people, and the inner side is for the shaman, for his inner journey. The red color of the drawings represents blood as a symbol of life,of rebirth,of union with nature. The moment to hear its beat,to feel it under your hands,to start the journey of your life is getting closer and closer...Thanks to @_taikalaakso_ for helping me with this post.Pic by @_taikalaakso_
