AMANITA MUSCARIA (PART II)

The traditional way to take Amanita was in a dry state, soaking her in milk, water or with the saliva of the mouth. The psychoactive part is caused by muscarine, but along with it other compounds such as muscimol pass through the body producing unpleasant side effects, so the ritual way of taking Amanita is through urine. First they drink the liquor resulting from boiling Amanita, get intoxicated and collect the urine to drink it later and enjoy the psychoactive effects of the fungus. Other tribes wait for the reindeer to urinate after eating the Amanita, collect the animal's urine and drink it. Intoxication with Amanita produces hallucinations and different moods, going from euphoria to calmness. Her use is spread all over the world: India, Europe, Canada, North and South America, Japan... Some people chop her up and smoke her mixed with tobacco. In Scotland, fishermen still consume a mixture of Amanita with whisky, called Cathy in honor of the Empress Catherine of Russia, who was a great consumer. The effects are diverse: joy, pleasure, calm, relaxation, visual alterations, deep sleep, nausea, diarrhea... Shamans around the world use Amanita in their ritual ceremonies, with medicinal purposes, for trance, to connect with divine...Where the leaves of the birch trees cover the ground, where the voice of the forest becomes a whisper and where no one can harm her, that's where the Amanita has her home.
